I have successfully connected to the news server before, but now I am getting a 502 error

Assuming you have connected successfully before, there are a few things that could cause a 502 error.

  1. If you have a Volume Based account, you could be out of bandwidth.  Log into the customer zone and check your available bandwidth.  If it has a negative or zero balance, you are out of bandwidth.
  2. If you have a Premium Based account, your subscription time could have expired.  Log into the customer zone and check your subscription status.  If it has expired, you can easily top-up your account by purchasing an additional time block.
  3. If you changed your password on our website, it also changes your password on the news server.  Remember to update your newsreader client's password.  Password changes are in effect immediately.
  4. If you reinstalled your newsreader client software, be sure you correctly entered your login information.
  5. The news server could be unavailable.  This is unlikely, but not impossible.  Check this by pinging  If you get a response, the server is available.  To ping the news server from a windows pc, choose "Start", then "Run...", type "", then at the dos prompt, type: "ping" if no packets are lost, the server is up.  If you do not get a response, either the server is down or a router between us and you is down.  Substitute other server names as appropriate.
